FAQ
What if I have no martial arts experience?
Do not worry! You fall into a group of the same beginners who want to learn martial arts. Our experienced trainers will teach you step by step, and in time you will definitely get comfortable.
I’m new at this. Can I sign up for your classes and what should I wear?
Of course you can! We warmly welcome newcomers. One of the main missions of creating our gym was to spread interest in martial arts. If you don’t have special clothes, you can just wear a T-shirt and shorts. Remember that in kickboxing, muay thai and MMA you will need to kick, so make sure your shorts are flexible enough.
There will be bouts for MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, so make sure your clothing fits snugly!
And finally, whatever clothes you choose, be prepared to sweat a LOT in them!
Are classes safe and are there sparrings?
While all sports involve risk, our policy is to put safety first. As long as you follow the rules of the gym and the instructions of the trainers, training is very safe. We have a very respectful and friendly training environment. No one will put you in sparring if you don’t want to. The workout is always tailored to your goals and desires.
Light to full contact sparring is not conducted until the students have reached a higher level. Beginners may occasionally practice “contact sparring” which uses light taps instead of punches. This exercise is for distance, timing and footwork training only and is completely safe.
If you still have fears and doubts about sparring, we recommend that you take a personal lesson with one of our instructors so that he smoothly prepares you for group sparring.
If I am traveling, can my membership be temporarily suspended?
Yes, as long as you notify in advance that you will be away for more than 7 days in a row and your package has not expired for more than 2 months. You will need to show us proof of travel in your passport. Also, your membership cannot be suspended for more than 2 months for each package.

Should I start with a Gi (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) or no Gi Jiu-Jitsu?

No-Gi or No-Gi BJJ training is heavily focused on using your balance to defeat opponents of various body types. It also pays great attention to the technique of a secure grip, joint locks and wrestling techniques.

MMA is a more varied and complex sport than boxing. MMA revolves around a combination of different techniques from different disciplines of martial arts – this is the same boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, taekwondo, wrestling, bjj, etc.
Boxing, on the other hand, focuses more on punching and kicking agility.

Don’t count the calories you eat. But give up carbohydrates at night.
Give up your smartphone and TV an hour before bedtime.
Do morning exercises and stretching.
I see on TV how wrestlers are thrown! Is the fight dangerous?
Wrestling is a real sport (Olympic sport). Professional wrestling is an entertainment show designed for shock and theatrical value. Safety is the main concern in the fight. Mats are designed and used for wrestling. Protective devices such as head protection, knee pads and adjustable shoes are used. Wrestling is a sport of control (not violence) to achieve a tangible, measurable result.
Will my child become aggressive or cocky?
Wrestling can ignite competitive drive, and despite the tension on the mat, many successful wrestlers are respectful yet confident and humble off the mat. Respect, compassion and sportsmanship are shown even at the highest levels of competition, as seen at the end of matches. Essentially, wrestling is unique in that it can be aggressive without being violent, as the goal is NOT to destroy or harm the opponent, but to outwit and gain control.
What happens if my child meets someone bigger, older, or more experienced?
Sooner or later, every fighter is defeated. Nobody likes to lose, but the mentality of wrestlers is to turn a loss into a new challenge. It is the ability to overcome adversity on and off the mat that really makes a wrestler.
How is wrestling different from team sports like baseball, football, and basketball?
Wrestling is different in that during the competition, each athlete must rely on their individual capabilities. You must face adversity one on one and call upon your own will to win. Each wrestler on a team has some potential and responsibility for scoring, so it’s unlikely that superstars will lead a team with the most points.
Are the classes suitable for women? Is the training different?
Our classes are for both men and women. The curriculum is no different and we set the same standards regardless of gender. In our experience, women usually don’t hesitate to “beat up” their sparring partners. This was very clear when we recently ran a Valentine’s Day promotion and 75% of the requests we received were from women who were keen to bring their boyfriends or husbands to the American Combat Gym.
What is the difference between boxing and muay thai?
There are definitely some similarities! Especially in the fact that both sports have punches, but the similarities end there.
The fact is that boxing is only punches and defensive actions in the form of dexterous movements with legs and head tilts. The boxing arsenal is very large and this is truly a beautiful royal form of martial arts.
Thai boxing is all about toughness and a wider range of techniques through punches, elbows, knees and kicks. Not without reason, MMA fighters like to mix this style into their game on the battlefield, which makes them more dangerous in close combat due to cuts from the elbows and sharp knees.
